The Real Drivers of Tourism and the Stories They Carry

Contributed by: Aileen on 08 June 2025

There’s a certain trepidation—tinged with excitement—about being on a road trip. One sees the world differently—through the sweep of a windshield, the laughter of strangers becoming friends, and the rhythm of a bus moving through landscapes, towns, AND stories.

That’s what excites me most about the upcoming Asian Buses Road Trip. It’s not just a journey from Point A to B; it’s a chance to witness, firsthand, the often-overlooked role that bus operators play in shaping our tourism ecosystem.

These are more than vehicles and schedules. Bus operators are small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with big impact. They connect rural communities to urban centres, bring tourists to hidden gems, and help economies move—literally. Behind each operator is a family-run business, a passionate team, or a legacy of serving generations of travellers.

As someone who believes in the power of stories and local enterprise, I’m looking forward to experiencing this on the ground:-)

Here’s to the road ahead—and the everyday heroes that keep the wheels turning.
